pinterest patterns

pin pin pin pin pin pin pin
Seemingly random, striking on instinct, pin it, ohh I like that.
Colour, shape, mix, blacks, whites, textured, minimalist.
So many criteria of what and where our interests lie can be summed up in a couple of words.
But how cohesive does it become?
Carefully curated or chaotic and random?
I visit my Pinterest once in a blue moon, almost like a quick browse through a shop.  I stopped by and scrolled through my own feed and saw patterns emerge.
Carefully curated or unconscious themes?

Patterns do emerge and we look for patterns.
They help us make sense of the world and the large amount of information we have to process.  We catalog and categorize instinctively.  And patterns are simply easy on the eyes and can create a sense of wonder.  Snowflakes? Romanesco broccoli? Now those are some stunning patterns.

#ALEXANDERWANGxHM

source: h&m
Whoa.
It was just announced today that Alexander Wang (that we all affectionately call A Wang, like we were bffs or something) will be the newest collaborator with the mega brand giant H&M.  The Balenciaga creative director will be the first American designer to partner with H&M and Wang will likely deliver a collection peppered with desirable accessories that we can't get enough of.

Past collab launches of Maison Martin Margiela and Isabel Marant  have caused fashion frenzies; and true to form Wang's contribution is sure to get everyone hot and bothered when the collection drops November 6th.

The Stowe

Recently I stopped in to visit the brand spanking new studio space of The Stowe and designer Molly Spittal.  I had seen the Denny backpack on jewelry designer Agathe Bodineau and fell in love.  I sent the Vancouver transplant an email introducing myself and then I totally invited myself over.  Get ready.

En Masse - Full Circle

Was it only yesterday that En Masse has a mega coming out party that epic Nuit Blanche at Galerie Pangée?
Hella no!!
This ever morphing collective art project celebrated their five years with a big birthday party- Station16 styles.  Have you ever seen a vernissage with a line up? Me neither, at least until this night came along.  So a toast to En Masse for blowing up and bringing this crazy, black and white collab party to the Montreal masses (and beyond)!

Flora and Freeze

A white freesia as a reminder that spring is on its way.  The latest dusting of snow with tire tracks that will hopefully melt away soon enough.

Christian Marclay - The Clock

I've only been waiting for this piece to come to Montreal for four years. Now the time has come to feast our eyes on the TWENTY-FOUR hour extravaganza of Christian Marclay's The Clock.  After years of tireless research with several assistants, Marclay meticulously edited clips of clocks and watches from movies and television to create a single channel video that demarcates the marching of time.  So when you, the viewer, are sitting in a comfy seat and that shot above pops onto the screen, you can rest assured that it is indeed one o'clock. Just like a Swiss watch...albeit a cinematic version.

The National Gallery of Canada and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston jointly owned piece has been gracing the screen of the Musee d'art contemporain de Montréal as of last week (!), and will be tick tocking until April (phew...) So don't wait too long, this is hotly anticipated not only by yours truly, but by plenty of other cine-art-nerds.

Pssst... tonight is Nuit Blanche....and it's screening all night for free...shhhhh...don't tell anyone!

ALDO SS14

Looking up, at the Aldo presentation.
Now look down at your slushy feet.
Spring, believe it or not is almost here.  As we struggle with boots, coats and all the wonderful winter accoutrements, I comfort myself with the thought that spring is right around the corner, maybe.  At least that's what the groundhog said.
Even before snow hit the ground I visited the Aldo group's spring/summer 2014 preview, where I squealed with delight at the thought of open-toed shoes.

First up: this oh so wonderful men's sneaker for the Aldo division.  I was having a chat with one of the lovely PR ladies about this shoe.  It went something like this: "Can I please, please please have this in my size?!?!"  She smiled politely and said she would make a note of it.

Ok in the more "realistic item to be desired" catagory, may I point to this insanely rad, Dr. Martens sandal. Yes please size 7US/4UK and thank you very much.  Me. You. At Little Burgundy. March. Can't wait.

There have been predictions that the must-have kicks of 2014 will be all about Vans.  Little Burgundy will also be carrying this Vans Authentic X ASPCA in an all-over kitty cat print.  Support your furry friends!

Call It Spring's deck shoe meets sneaker. Rad or cray? Kinda making me think of the Prada wingtip/sneaker hybrid from a few seasons back.  Or more recently this derby/sneaker.  There is a lot of love for kicks in the air.

This year's Aldo Rise designer collab was with UK based designer Ostwald Helgason.  The design duo are lovers of print and tactile fabrics, which is nicely expressed in their latest for Aldo.  See those handbags in the background?  This will be the first time that Aldo Rise will be producing arm candy.  Get into spring already!
